San Bernardino Man Charged with Identity Theft

The San Bernardino County District Attorney has announced that Roberto Carlos Mendoza-Lazo, 45, of San Bernardino, has been charged with identity theft and attempted perjury. In January, the district attorney’s office’s Workers’ Compensation Fraud Unit began a criminal investigation which allegedly found that he used the social security numbers of two individuals to obtain employment. According to a senior investigator with the case, Mendoza-Lazo also attempted to obtain workers’ compensation benefits using the same social security numbers.

Authorities arrested Mendoza-Lazo May 30 at his place of employment in San Bernardino County. He was subsequently booked into the Central Detention Center jail. Mendoza-Lazo pleaded not guilty to all counts at his arraignment the next day. If convicted as charged, he faces four years, two months in county prison, according to the district attorney’s office.
